Of Living Waters

So I have this "thing" about water. I'm just so fascinated by the concept of water and it's form and function. Also natural waters are my happy place. Recently I have been pondering Gen1v2 where it says "and the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters". It made me do a search on the significance of water in the Bible. Well needless to say this came up with endless scriptures but another significant story in the bible popped in to my head : The Samaritan woman at the well- Jesus legit has a whole conversation about water which as we know is not really about water.

Anyway this became a whole study topic for me so I thought I would share what I found about water and what it represents in the bible. Water represents a lot of things so I made a list as a sort of summary • Water represents the Word of God; in that it is cleansing (Eph 5v26-27) •Water represents the Holy Spirit: Life giving waters. (John 7v37) • Water represents eternal life/ salvation: Isaiah 12v3- With joy you will draw water from the wells of Salvation • Water represents Jesus as : The fountain of living water(Jer 17:3)

No wonder I am absolutely in love with water! In this pondering on water I remembered that God gave me a personal word on water 2 years ago on a trip to Sabi so to end off our little study here is what I wrote in August 2015:

"Life gets hectic and if you are as fortunate as I am sometimes you get to break away. My best get away would be one near any kind of natural water. Be it a river, dam, lake or beach. I have a thing for water. Recently I got to go to Sabie, Mpumalanga with a few friends and we stayed along the Sabie river. It was majestic. My lullaby at night was the gurgling sounds of water rushing over rocks and the exact same soothing sounds slowly woke me in the morning. My favourite activity was going down to the river and finding the perfect rock to sit on, preferably one that was slap bam in the middle of the rushing water There I could be still, which is something that I find extremely difficult. I think what helped me is the sounds of the water gurgling and splashing and rushing over the rocks which drowned out the hustle and bustle in my mind. As I sat listening to the noises and watching the water traverse it's way around the rocks, I started to think that this river represented life in a way. The way the river makes it way through and forges a path where there was previously just rocks made me think of my life and the struggles that I have had to navigate through. Then I stopped and asked the Lord: "If this river represents life , any persons life, are you the water or the rocks? In my own thinking I would deduce that God would be the water. Life giving, gentle but able to change the shape of the rock, pure, refreshing. But then that would mean we are rocks. Which is really not inspiring. At that moment I felt something inside me say: "Why do we have to be separate, why would you be the rock and I be the water. You are made in My image. If I am the water then so are you." I was speechless. Isn't it just like God to take something so beautiful and have it teach us more about His character and in turn more about ourselves. If God is like the water flowing in a river or stream so are we: majestic, gentle but powerful, able to make a way through tough situations, always flowing, pure, full of life. "

Psalm 42v1 "As the deer pants for the water so my soul longs after you"
